The prayer principle delivered by JESUS
Matthew 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt
bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in
heaven.
Matthew 18:18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and
whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Watchman Nee in his book “Prayer Ministry of the Church” expresses the following from these verses.
1. We are in a cosmic battle in the spirit world. Jehovah’s Kingdom in conflict with Satan’s
Kingdom. JESUS has secured the victory. Believers organized into the church have the ability to
receive and implement Jehovah’s Kingdom in their area of responsibility.
2. One of the great powers given to the church is prayer.
3. The basic principle is binding and loosing.
a. Most Bible scholars agree that this is understood to mean that we get to bind on earth
what has already been bound in heaven and we get to loose on earth what has already
been loosed in heaven.
b. Free will of people and the sovereignty of Jehovah are central to understanding and
implementing binding and Loosing prayer.
i. GOD does not force HIS will on us, HE makes HIS will knowable and expects us
to seek HIS will.
c. Unity of the believers is power in the spirit world.
i. When we agree to evil, evil prevails
ii. When we agree to righteousness, righteousness prevails.
4. This can look like this:
a. Speak out GOD’s will.
b. Pray in unity/harmony concerning an issue.
c. Gather to pray.
5. As believers and citizens of the USA we have authority over the list below and probably more,
the effectiveness comes as we gain unity in an area, we see GOD’s blessing flow. We have all
seen the impact in ourselves and family as we move between unity and discord.
a. Ourselves and family
b. Our church family
c. Unsaved friends and neighbors
d. Social groups where we participate
e. Local government
f. State government
g. Federal government
h. World government
6. If we agree that these principles apply, then:
a. We should practice binding and loosing prayer, proclaiming GOD’s will.
b. We should seek unity/harmony in each area of influence.
c. We should gather to pray.
